Wildlife photographer Chiara Talia has spent years cultivating a practice rooted in patience, observation, and a deep respect for the natural world. But over time, she began to question whether the systems surrounding her work were still serving the work itself. In this conversation, Chiara reflects on her decision to step away from short-form content and the growing pressure to create for algorithms rather than people. We discuss the subtle ways platforms shape creative practice, the disappearance of process in favour of results, and the tension between visibility and authenticity. Along the way, we explore wildlife photography as a practice of attention, the value of slowness in a culture obsessed with speed, and what it means to choose a path that feels aligned, even when it may cost opportunities. This is a conversation about creative integrity, self-reflection, and returning to the work with clearer eyes.

Conversation Highlights

The wildlife encounter that changed the course of her life

Building a photography practice around patience and observation

How social media changed the culture of wildlife photography

The pressure to perform for algorithms

Why process matters as much as results

Leaving short-form content behind

Choosing authenticity over visibility

Photography as a way of seeing, not a collection of gear

The role of intuition, curiosity, and attention in creative work

“There’s no telling anymore of the process. Everything is about results.”

About Chiara Talia

Chiara Talia is an Italian wildlife photographer, educator, and content creator whose work focuses primarily on birds and the natural world. Drawing on a background in science, she combines fieldcraft, observation, and storytelling to help people connect more deeply with nature. Through her photography, educational content, and long-form videos, Chiara explores not only how images are made, but the experiences, ethics, and ways of seeing that shape them. Her work encourages a slower, more intentional approach to both photography and the natural world.
