Documenting the evolution of serious creative work

Piperlime Studio is a small narrative studio exploring how serious creative work evolves over time. Through conversations, essays, and portraits, the studio documents artists, performers, and creators navigating the long middle of a creative life, the period where craft deepens, identities shift, and new directions begin to emerge.

Why this work exists

Creative lives rarely unfold in straight lines.

Most artists spend years between early discovery and lasting recognition, experimenting, refining, questioning, and rebuilding their practice as they move forward.

Piperlime Studio exists to explore that space, the evolving process of artists who are still in the making.

The podcast

In the Making is a Piperlime Studio podcast.

Each episode brings together working creatives reflecting on their process, influences, and the realities of sustaining a creative life. Conversations move between craft and philosophy, tracing how artists evolve through their work.

Guests include performers, photographers, musicians, filmmakers, and other makers whose work spans disciplines but shares a commitment to craft and creative inquiry.

The studio

Piperlime Studio was founded by Michele Mauviel, a creative director working at the intersection of storytelling, digital publishing, and media production.

For more than two decades she has worked in web design, digital strategy, and narrative media, helping organizations and creators bring ideas to life through thoughtful structure and design.

Through Piperlime Studio she documents artists and creative thinkers at pivotal moments in their work.

Dawson DeGraaf - Host, In The Making

In the Making is hosted by Dawson DeGraaf, whose curiosity about art, film, music, and performance shapes the tone of each conversation.

Alongside the podcast, Dawson has directed and produced a range of personal and experimental films, developing a visual storytelling voice through cinematography, editing, and independent film. His work reflects an ongoing interest in how creative ideas take shape across different mediums.

Through the podcast, Dawson brings that same exploratory mindset to conversations with artists, inviting guests to reflect on the influences, turning points, and philosophies that shape their work.
